Hello Families!
We went to the University of Montreal on Thursday last week. We played many games. Our class played Boula Boula for a long time. It was our favourite game. After lunch we watched a circus show. There was a man who balanced on his head and he juggled. Then, we went swimming. It was fun. It was a super-duper trip.
Right before we left for Montreal, one butterfly came out of the pupa. On Friday, 5 more butterflies came out. The pupas were broken. Red liquid, called marconium, came out with the butterflies.
We had about 17 butterflies in all. On Tuesday of this week, we went outside to release the butterflies. We drew a picture of this in our Butterfly Journal. One butterfly landed on Mathieu’s shirt and another on Justin. We liked having butterflies in the class.
It was a fun week!
Uncategorized | Comment (0)New additions to our blog
Today I learned how to upload pictures onto our blog. Thank you to my colleague, Mrs. Lynch, for her guidance in doing this.
Another new feature are links to web sites featuring our work. You will see this on the right side of this web page. The new link that I would like to bring to your attention is for Voice Thread. Here, you will find your child’s art work and hear his/her voice reading their re-written version of Hey Diddle Diddle. I am sure you will enjoy this new project, as many show the students’ great sense of humour. There are a few kinks that we will be working out next week, so don’t worry if you can’t hear your child’s voice. This will be fixed soon!

Hello families!
In math this week, we made animals with tangram pieces.
We wrote in our butterfly journals that some of our caterpillars are making pupas. The pupa is green. They are hanging from the tops of the containers, on the lids. They are moving a lot! The caterpillars that are not in pupas are wiggling in the containers.
On Thursday we did our power words quiz.
On Wednesday we painted butterflies in art.
Yesterday we went on a field trip to see a play. We went to the military base. Grade 4, 5, and 6 students presented the musical Aladdin. It was terrific!
Tomorrow we do not have any school because it is a ped. day.
Have a great weekend!
A New Look
We have changed our blog’s theme! When we voted on a theme, the first one we used won by one vote. Now, we are using the theme with the second most amount of votes. More changes to come soon!

We had a fantastic week!
In art we made butterflies. The butterflies are symmetrical. This means that the two sides are exactly the same. The are hanging from the ceiling.
On Thursday we received many caterpillars. They are in an aquarium, in small containers with special caterpillar food. The lids have wholes so that they can breathe. We are keeping an observation journal where we write what we see and we draw a picture. It is cool to have caterpillars in our class.
We learned a song about butterflies that taught us that caterpillars start from eggs. We also learned that the caterpillars make a cocoon and come out as a butterfly.

Thank You!!
On Friday we had seven mothers, one father, and five brothers and sisters visit our classroom to watch the nursery rhyme presentations. Your participation and support is so important to us. Because you were with us, the presentations were more special. Thank you to all of our visitors!!
A big thank you to the parents who helped their children practice and prepare props for the presentations.

Hello everyone,
We had a very busy week.
We had a man come to our school and he showed us bugs. He let a big stick bug climb on all of us. This was the best part for some of us, but some of us didn’t want the bug on us. He showed us a big spider. The presentation was cool!
On Friday, we did our nursery rhyme presentations. Many people brought eggs as Humpty Dumpty. Andrew made a large paper mache egg. Alys did Old Mother Hubbard and we liked it.
On Thursday we talked about feelings with Mrs. Brown, spiritual animator.
On Tuesday we had gym class and we played soccer and other games.
We hope that you liked reading this. Have a great long weekend!

Hello parents and friends!
Miss Dickson showed us our blog page. We voted on the colours for the blog page and we changed it. We chose Mandigo, which is blue, white, and black. Not everyone was happy, but we chose it together.
Today we wrote a letter to Humpty Dumpty. We told him NOT to sit on the wall because he could fall and break. Many of us invited him to our house so he would be safe.
Parents: Can Humpty Dumpty come to our house?
In art we used pastels to colour a picture of our made-up Hey Diddle Diddle.
In math we played a game to learn how to count by 10s and 1s. Today we made 10-trains with snap cubes. We did a lot of group activities.
Have a great weekend!

As part of the LEARN-CEFRIO project, which encourages teachers to use technology as part of their teaching, I have learned about blogs being used in the classroom. At first, I did not see how I could use this tool with my students. I thought my students would not be able to blog because we only have 2 computers and because of the average writing ability. However, during a session with other teachers, I saw how students as young as kindergarten or grade 1 could be involved with a classroom blog. So, here I am, giving something new a try.
This is my first blog, professional or personal. Each week, on Friday, my students and I will sit together and summarize our week of learning and activities at school. The students will be able to see our writing projected onto the screen as I (or they) type it. This shared writing will (hopefully!) enhance my Language Arts program as well as provide my students more exposure to technology. Shared writing is a great tool to promote collaboration and to demonstrate thinking aloud before writing. The students will phonetically sound-out the words we wish to use or will find the power words on our Word Wall.
I am very excited to see how our first attempt will go, and I’ll tell you about it later!
